Question about the Express Pass in TAR27

Maybe I missed something but in the first episode I believe Phil said that
the team who won the Express Pass had until the end of leg 5 to use it and
then had to give it to another team. What I didn't hear is how long does the
second team get it for? Is it until the end of leg 8? Also, what happens if
the first team (Team Texas) doesn't use it? Do they have the option of
taking it out of the game if they don't use it? If I was them that's what I
would prefer as it would better my odds of getting to the end.

Think they have to use it. It's essentially a freebie so why not use it.
