So now Amazing Race Canada has faded into oblivion, two
nights ago, they even had an hour long windup show after the finish.

Now the real game begins, The Amazing Race tonight.

What, no comments or recap?

I wanna know why the contestants were (probably) required to wear
fairly tiny bikinis and men's shorter-than-usual shorts. Did TAR choose
pairs based solely on their figures? There certainly weren't any heavy-
weights. I did notice that one of the TMZ women did put on a T-shirt to
avoid sunburn, so that wasn't against the rules. And the other players on
the beach were dressed in all kinds of clothes.

So my question still is, "why?"

Other than that, not much to comment on in the first outing.

Just based on the first ep alone it may have set the record for most T&A.

There was one episode that gave a short but **very** revealing
down-blouse shot. I'm thinking it might have been TARCH, though.

If you're just counting quality rather than exposure you're certainly
right. They also put this in the first leg so it happened before the
eye candy gets eliminated.

I noticed that, initially I thought she was getting ready prematurely.
Then it occurred to me that they were taking their time, and might be
cooling off.

Were they at Ipanema Beach? I thought Brazillian beaches were well known
for skimpy bathing suits (I thought the thong got its start there), so the
skimpy suits seemed appropriate, in this case.

Michael, yes, skimpy is the tradition...but this is the first time the players have
been required to wear suits of the same style and color. I just thought it was
odd. Maybe the pairs were asked beforehand if they would object. It seems
some of the men were unhappy about the shorts style.

I missed that part in your first post. I think you're right, they were
"uniforms" issued by the show. Previously, they'd either have their own
bathing suits, or their underwear. Except that time, was it in Russia,
where the two black sisters had to do a task in underwear, and one had to
borrow some because she wasn't wearing any?

While I was watching, it did make me wonder if everyone had properly
fitting suits, or some had to squeeze into something smaller than they
needed.

TAR provides various getups for the racers. I'm sure they ask
everyone's sizes before the race starts.

Yeah, the suits were appropriate for the beach.
Considering it was warm but not hot for that time of the year i'm not
surprised there was not even a shot of a local in the dental floss.

But then they'd get the shot, only to have to blur it.

What boggled me was that two of the men expressed some discomfort
with the short trunks. NBA players used to wear shorter uniforms
than that! In an age where nobody seeks privacy (see social media)
and we have shows like Amazing Race that require a certain amount
of exhibitionism just to appear, this show of male physical modesty
was quite surprising to me.

Michael, I remember the (for real) good old days when men's and women's basketball
uniform shorts were short, but decent, and so were the women's regular (not beach)
volleyball shorts also decent.

Now, the basketball shorts look like what you see hanging low on street corners, and
regular women's volleyball shorts fit like regular underpants. I don't understand the
basketball shorts being so long...I have always wondered if they don't restrict movement;
but I guess not, or they wouldn't be so regulation. But I don't get the change.

TAR was looking for a booby prize, perhaps? :)

I suspect they didn't care about the T-shirt because they had enough
time to film the bikini-clad boobies and beyond that it didn't matter.

Really now, though, getting Philiminated over a 15-puzzle???

The v-ball I can understand. I know I would be pretty awful at it.

And technically, wasn't it some fusion of football and volleyball?

Yes, South American football is soccer (as it is in Europe)...they could use heads and
feet, but not hands. The teams could use hands, which made it easier for them to
score.

For the teams it was normal volleyball. The locals were handicapped
by playing it like soccer.

I think the locals must play like that very often. The use of their feet and the
expert kicks showed that it wasn't just a TAR setup.

I just finished watching the episode and didn't understand that either. Or
why they were all in white.

Given the matching attire it was obviously race-supplied. As for
why--the real reason had to be to provide some eye candy for the
viewers.

The eye candy part I get but dressing everyone the same was not a good move
this early. I had a hell of a time telling the teams apart due to do some of
the younger women looking so similar.

One other comment about the episode. For some reason I took a real liking to
Team TMZ immediately. Guess I'll have to find new favorites now after I
figure out who's who. I definitely won't be cheering for the creepy mom with
the gay son. I'm fine with him but there's something about her that scares
me. She stopped to put on lipstick before getting to the mat?! I hope she
gets eliminated because of that one leg.

I started out liking the engaged pair, the really tall Justin and his fiancée,
Diana, but he was such a cry baby during the leg, it turned me off.
Now I like the dancing brothers from Boston, and Team Texas. Team
ChacAttack is o.k., but they seem kinda smug. If that perceived attitude
disappears, they will be a third favorite.
