Not knowing any of these people didn't hurt my enjoyment of the first
episode. It was like watching a "normal" season. What did hurt was the
editing. I felt the show was all over the place and lacked focus more than
it usually does in the first episode of a new season. They need to watch
Survivor and learn how to tell stories a lot better.

The new name graphics suck as did a lot of the teams. Please let Sheri and
Cole be the first team eliminated.

I did like how they started the race. It was totally different and I thought
it worked out well. Making the first leg an NEL was also good. It's been
ages since they've done that. What happened to the prize for first place
this leg? No sponsors this season? Also no mention of the Express Pass. Is
it gone as well for this race?

Creepiest moment was the voiceover of the daughter of the last place team
saying "you're the best, daddy." Was that really her or did they insert a
line from a porn flick?

My problem with the teams is there's no "hook" to make it easier to remember who's who. Obviously a few physical things, like the father (not in his 20s!) and the two tall black guys. Almost as bad as the dating season.

So frantic, not sure who is strong yet. The black guys impressed me by jumping from the back to fourth, and the two parents didn't by taking took long on the roadblock, especially spending so much time outside when everybody else was still in the cave. That should have been a clue. But we've seen teams with first episode brain cramps recover to go far, so I'll reserve judgement. Except the mom-son team from Alabama is already annoying me.

Is the mother-son team the Alabama one? How often have we had both a mother
AND a son who both cry at the drop of a hat? I was disappointed they hung on
for another leg. Obviously both teams of parent/child aren't over-endowed with
brains or logic.

Has there ever been a good mother-son team? Parent-child teams tend
to be pretty weak anyway.

The black guys (brothers right?) finishing fourth surprised me because I
don't recall the edit explaining how they jumped up so many positions. What
I do remember about them is that their mom went to Harvard and that they
were home taught--smarter than they seem. There was probably a reason they
showed us that part so either they are going to do great or they are going
to be out soon due to a stupid mistake.

The team from Alabama is Sheri and Cole, correct? From what I've seen on
social media they're the standout team so far--nearly everyone wants them
gone as they were too annoying. Which team is Rooster Teeth? Apparently
they're popular.

what's to know, they are all self-indulgent wannabees. the least the
show could have done was have at least two teams that were made up of
people who cared about other people, not their "fame"

It certainly was different. On another forum I saw people complaining
about how could it be a surprise with the cameraman there but I don't
see that that's the case--they could have been told something
different about what to expect.

The first leg normally doesn't have a prize beyond the express pass,
does it? Either they're ditching it or it's going to be at the end of
the second leg when they actually eliminate a team.

I'm thinking they arranged this first leg as a basically
no-consequence leg because they didn't know how the three start setup
was going to work. They also put in a continuation-time bunching
point--probably for the same reason. (And I'm very in favor of that
approach--it's much better to bunch them but preserve the order than
simply putting everyone at the same time like they so often do with
operating hours.)

You might be right. Last season the prize for Leg 1 was the Express Pass.
Guess we'll find out at the start of the next episode.

That sounds logical to me.
