So I did watch The Price is Right last night, Amazing Race being the
theme. I suspect I wouldn't have bothered if there was something else I
wanted to watch at the same time.

It played out about the same as a usual show, except Phil made an
introduction at the beginning and had bits of roles through the show.

They'd pick an audience member, then a team from the Amazing Race, so they
had three people down at each microphone. Kind of odd there. I think I
vaguely remembered one of the contestants, but between them all dressed
up, the time that has passed and who knows what else, most I didnt'
recognize except in a sort of generic way. So I suspect most contestants
were more recent. I guess the Harlem Globetrotter team was there, but
they look different, not all that athletic anymore.

I realize the point was cross-show tie-ins, but I don't think it did much
for either of the shows.

Did you not recognize Leo and Jamal or Kat and Nat? Nat looked quite pregnant. Wonder if she had her kid yet? Ally and Ashley looked great being the models for one of the showcases.

To me Phil seemed the least comfortable of the three hosts acting all crazy which I take it is a prerequisite for The Price Is Right. Jeff seemed really into it to me and Julie looked like she was having a good time as well. The Survivor and BB nights also had a lot of iconic players for those shows but TAR had no such teams as far as I'm concerned unless you consider Mark and Bopper to be iconic. Did they all turn CBS down or have all of the iconic TAR teams broken up?

I thought all three nights were fun and like 99.9% of BB fans I was very happy that Frankie didn't make it up on stage!

TAR doesn't really have any "iconic" teams.

Okay, maybe the Beekman Boys, or the Rodeo Brothers, and I will always have great admiration for Dave 'n Mary for leaping so far out of their coal miner-comfort zone, but are any of them truly iconic? Not really. Most of the players aren't even all that memorable.

Obviously if Michael couldn't remember any of them and probably only noticed the Globetrotters because of their size. I am surprised he didn't recognize Brook and Clair. Maybe he would have if they had made it up on stage.

When Joey and Kelsey were called down I was like "who?!" for a few seconds until I recognized them. Kind of sad given I think it was only a season or two ago that they won. There are teams I would have recognized and I have a feeling a lot of other people would have as well if they had been asked and/or accepted. I still can't place the two girls who made it to the end.

Yes, of the teams they had on the show I didn't recognize Flight Time
and Big Easy when they called them but did know the names. Bopper
stood out. As did the two guys from this season though I don't recall
their name.

I was thinking about the various teams over the years and there really
aren't that many that stand out. It's either teams that looked/acted
very different or those that did something special that stand. Like
the "broken ox" team or the Guidos getting Philiminated before they
got to the mat because they were over a day behind the winning lawyer
team. Then there is Charla and Myrna who stood out both because of
size but also heart. Still remember seeing this little woman carrying
a huge hunk of meat on her shoulder.

That's a big problem with TAR. Few teams stand out even during the season. The ones I remember the most were either crossover teams like Brenchel or Rob and Amber, or are no longer together like Dave and Rachel. It's also possible work schedules didn't work for some people. Becky from BB17 said she was asked but turned them down because she had started a new job. I don't blame her even though it sucked for us as she had to do a lot of studying to pass her exams to keep the job so it would be stupid to ask for time off when she has no intentions of getting into the entertainment field.

I think we all have teams we remember, but they are personal rather than a
collective memory.

I would have liked to see Gus & Hera, though Hera had a lousy life
experience well after she was on the show.

I can say that with Survivor, I remember the earliest contestants the
most, but I'm not sure if that's the case with Amazing Race.

I had vague memories. Was the asian woman who was part of Kat and Nat a
doctor? I remember her, but remember her as a doctor. I can't remember
if I saw all the show or not, nobody I saw hit me on the head as "I
remember them", just much vaguer memories.

I didn't watch the other two nights, so I have no comparison.

I hadn't thought about the show not getting access to all the teams, I was
thinking they decided to use more recent teams.

They were ER docs at the time of filming, Nat was still a resident. It's possible but not very likely to switch to anesthesiology though they'd have to do an additional residency of at least a year--probably longer as ER/family practice residencies don't generally include anesthesiology rotations.

Flight Time and Big Easy may not look all that athletic any more, but they still play ...errr... perform for the Harlem Globetrotters. Flight Time is pushing 40 and Big Easy is in his early 30s, so they are getting older, like we all are.

As for the comments about the teams that were chosen and the teams that weren't there, with a few exceptions (Mark and Bopper, The Globetrotters, Brooke and Claire to name a few), nearly all of the teams that were at the taping live in the Los Angeles area. That's why you saw some odd choices like Dennis and Isabelle and Art and JJ. They just had to get them to drive over to the studio. Much cheaper than flying them in and putting them up in a hotel for a few days. I didn't see the Survivor or BB shows, so I don't know if it was the same for those episodes, but I expect it was.

That's exactly how it was. Monica Padilla who was on Survivor: Samoa and Survivor: Second Chances and is now doing casting work for CBS asked people who had been on these shows if they wanted to appear. It was basically if you can make it you'll be in the audience and get a bit of screen time. That's why for BB you had Austin, Ash, Liz and Juj in the audience. To me it seemed like the people they flew in got called down to play the game unless they were an iconic player like Dr. Will.
