The next time someone tells me "okay, boomer", I am going to just
smile
and say "stick shift". I had to laugh when the two young guys
couldn't even get their car up the parking garage ramp. And the two
blonde girls having trouble in traffic... Hee-hee! When I learned
how to drive (way back in the Age of Dirt), automatic transmissions
were still coming into vogue. Guess everything old can be new again,
if you wait long enough.

I found it interesting how different folks had differnt strategies on
figuring out the art matching challenge. Of course, that is part and
parcel of the race. The one competitor who did surprise me was that
big football player. When he got it right on the first try, I was
very impressed. Guess it just goes to show you that you can't judge a
book by its cover.

The pie throwing was a total surprise. Good thing the two beard guys
gave their other pact-buddies a heads up. But one thing I did have a
nitpick about was the fact that they didn't have to wear nets over
those luxurious beards. Maybe things are different over in France.

to live under robber barons than oppressive moral busybodies.
The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity

own good will torment us without end for they do so with the
approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis

Dunno when automatics were coming into vogue, but there were still lots of
manual transmissions when I reached driving age. Mostly in smaller "sporty"
cars and foreign sedans. I learned to drive on a manual and most of my cars
have had manual transmissions. Some of the neighbors had dirt bikes they rode
in the woods and fields, so I also got some early experience shifting with
a hand clutch and the "one down two up" foot pedal pattern. But yes, as I
understand it, manual transmissions are still very common in Europe. One has to
pay more attention to what the car/engine is doing with a manual, and I think
that contributes to being a better driver.

Perhaps they didn't bother because they knew the pies weren't for human
consumption.
